Seocho-gu designates Cheonggye-ro-wa as 12th alleyway shopping district

Seocho-gu has officially designated the ‘Cheonggye-ro-wa’ commercial district near Cheonggyesan Entrance Station as the district’s 12th alleyway shopping district. The area covers approximately 15,780 square meters and contains 120 shops, primarily serving hikers and visitors to Cheonggyesan Mountain.

As a designated alleyway shopping district, local merchants will gain access to various benefits similar to traditional markets, including registration for Onnuri gift certificates, marketing and promotional support, and eligibility for government-funded projects. To celebrate, the district plans to host the ‘Cheonggye-ro-wa Festival’ on October 31, featuring trekking activities and cultural events.

Seocho-gu Mayor Jeon Seong-su stated that the designation aims to ease the economic burden on small business owners and revitalize the economy around the Cheonggyesan area. The district has been actively working to lower institutional barriers for such designations since 2021 to foster local commercial competitiveness.
