Seocho-gu launches Umyeon Book Garden outdoor reading space

Seocho-gu is launching the ‘Umyeon Book Garden’ at the Umyeon Library outdoor terrace to provide a seasonal reading space for residents. Running from September 30 to October 29, the initiative transforms the fourth-floor terrace into a park-like environment featuring artificial grass, mats, camping chairs, and small tents.

The program is divided into two sessions: the first from September 30 to October 13, and the second from October 16 to October 29. To enhance the autumn atmosphere, the space will be decorated with reeds and chrysanthemums, with lanterns and lighting provided for evening readers.

Residents can utilize ‘Book Kits’—packages containing books, mats, and blankets—with the availability expanded to 50 sets to accommodate up to 100 users. Cultural activities include a ‘Fantastic Magic Show’ for children and guardians on October 7, as well as book curation focused on connecting generations through senior-themed literature. Additionally, a pop-up library in collaboration with a local daycare center is planned for October to encourage outdoor reading for children and parents.
