Seogwipo City street lighting project receives high resident satisfaction

Seogwipo City has reported high levels of resident satisfaction following its street lighting improvement project in the old urban center. A survey conducted between August 28 and September 8 among 152 residents and visitors yielded an overall satisfaction score of 8.7 out of 10.

Between March and July this year, the city renovated 195 lighting facilities across eight sections, including installing additional streetlights, replacing aging fixtures, and adding pedestrian lights. These upgrades increased average illuminance by 1.8 to 3 times compared to previous levels. Survey results indicated that 85% of respondents felt the old town was brighter, and 83% felt walking at night had become safer. Additionally, 66% of respondents reported an increase in nighttime visits to the area.

Despite the positive results, some areas for improvement were identified. Approximately 28% of respondents noted that certain sections remain dark, specifically pointing to residential alleys and high-traffic pedestrian roads. Future priorities identified by participants include crime prevention, stable maintenance, and pedestrian safety. Seogwipo City plans to establish multi-year illuminance improvement plans for residential and commercial areas based on these findings.
