Seogwipo Developmental Disability Welfare Center to open early next year
Jeju Province has completed construction of the Seogwipo Developmental Disability Welfare Center in Topyeong-dong, with an official opening scheduled for early next year. The project, which involved a total investment of 13.9 billion won, aims to improve welfare accessibility and provide customized support for individuals with developmental disabilities in the Seogwipo region.
The facility spans a total floor area of 2,097.87 square meters across two floors and one basement level. It features specialized spaces including a digital activity area, a smart fitness room, an indoor gymnasium, program rooms, a residential experience room, and counseling offices. Programs will focus on positive behavior support, augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), digital activities, and daily living independence training.
To ensure comprehensive care, the center will also offer family counseling, parent peer support, and mobile services for those in rural areas. The National Solidarity of Parents of People with Disabilities has been selected as the operating agency and is currently recruiting staff and establishing operational systems. Jeju Province plans to finalize administrative procedures, including barrier-free environment certification, before the official opening.
