Seomjin River municipalities strengthen integrated tourism cooperation

Four municipalities along the Seomjin River—Gwangyang, Gokseong, Gurye, and Hadong—are expanding their cooperation to establish an integrated tourism belt. During a recent meeting in Gokseong, local leaders and representatives from the Jeonnam Tourism Foundation discussed progress and future strategies to transform the region into a unified travel destination.

A key focus of the collaboration is the ‘Seomjin River Stay’ project, which aims to develop stay-over tourism products by utilizing the area's natural, cultural, and ecological resources. The municipalities intend to brand the entire Seomjin River area as a single destination, encouraging visitors to move seamlessly across administrative boundaries.

Upcoming joint initiatives include the launch of a circular tour bus connecting major tourist sites in October and the ‘Seomjin River Trail 100K’ event in November. These efforts follow the 2023 declaration of the ‘Seomjin River Tourism Era’ and the inclusion of the project in the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s southern regional tourism development plan.
