Seong Seung-min wins South Korea's first Asian Games gold
South Korean pentathlete Seong Seung-min won the women’s individual modern pentathlon at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, securing South Korea’s first gold medal of the competition.
Competing at Anjo Sports Park, Seong finished with 1,492 points across five disciplines: fencing, swimming, obstacle course racing, and the laser run. Her victory ends a four-game gold medal streak by China in this event. China’s Zhang Mingyu took the silver medal, while Wu Xiyao earned the bronze.
In the team event, Seong’s performance helped South Korea secure second place behind China. Seong, a former world champion and Olympic bronze medalist, led the competition from start to finish.
