Seongnam City to unveil media art at Mulbit Garden

Seongnam City will unveil a new media art installation at the Seongnam Mulbit Garden in Gumi-dong on September 5. The project, part of the city’s ‘Media Art Specialized Street Creation Project’, transforms a former sewage treatment plant site that had been abandoned for 28 years into a cultural and recreational space.

The installation features a media facade on the exterior of the Music Hall, showcasing an 8-minute and 30-second audiovisual production titled ‘Concert of Tancheon Animals’. The content depicts local wildlife, such as otters and raccoons, celebrating the garden’s return to the community. Additionally, a 45-meter-long media tunnel has been constructed inside the former sedimentation tank building, complete with viewing windows for visitors to enjoy the light displays.

Mayor Shin Sang-jin expressed expectations for the garden to become a representative cultural space where music, media art, and nature coexist. The site, which covers 29,041 square meters, was originally completed in 1997 but ceased operations due to resident opposition. Following the opening of walking paths last year and the Music Hall in September, the new media art features aim to provide enhanced nighttime attractions for citizens.
