Seongsu Station emerges as Seoul's top multi-generational and international transit hub

Data from Seoul Metro for the first half of 2026 reveals significant shifts in subway usage patterns across Seoul, highlighting Seongsu Station as a major multi-generational and international destination. Seongsu Station ranked first in the increase of both adolescent and general passenger numbers. Specifically, adolescent ridership rose by 39.6% to 349,203, while general ridership increased by 19.6% to approximately 8.9 million. The station also saw a 73.5% surge in child passengers.

Foreign tourism is also driving subway growth. At Seongsu Station, single-trip ticket usage in English, Chinese, and Japanese increased by 36.9%. Other stations seeing rises in foreign commuters include Gimpo Airport, Konkuk University, and Gongdeok.

Other notable regional trends include Ichon Station, which saw a 50.5% increase in child passengers due to proximity to family attractions like the National Museum of Korea, and Dongmyo Station, which recorded a 66.8% increase in adolescent ridership, driven by its popularity as a vintage shopping destination. Additionally, Magok Station showed a 35% increase in general ridership, reflecting its growth as a new business and industrial hub.
