Seoul brother gets suspended sentence after covering sibling's knife attack

A Seoul court reduced the sentence of a man who had tried to shield his younger brother after the sibling stabbed him with a kitchen knife during a domestic dispute. The brother had told police he injured himself and attempted to hide the weapon. In the first‑instance trial, the younger brother was sentenced to three years in prison for attempted murder. On appeal, the Seoul High Court overturned that verdict, imposing a three‑year prison term suspended for four years, along with probation, 160 hours of community service, and confiscation of the knife used in the attack.

The appellate judges noted the younger brother’s full admission of guilt and remorse, as well as the older brother’s request for leniency, leading to the non‑custodial sentence.
