Seoul district heads and senior officials appointed in local government reshuffle

Five newly elected district heads in Seoul—Ryu Kyung-gi (Jungnang), Yu Dong-gyun (Mapo), Yu Chan-jong (Jongno), Yu Bo-hwa (Seongdong) and Ryu Sam-young (Dongjak)—all share the surname 류/유 and belong to the Democratic Party, a proportion that far exceeds the name's share of the city’s population. Their victories were highlighted for the concentration of one surname among a fifth of the city's district leadership.

In addition, the Jongno‑gu office announced a series of senior staffing changes, appointing So Myung-hoon as Planning and Economy Director and Son Yeon-suk as Administrative Support Manager, alongside numerous other department heads and division chiefs covering welfare, culture, finance, and urban planning.

These appointments and elections reflect a broader reshuffle of local officials in Seoul’s municipal administration.
