Seoul expects major traffic disruptions due to Liberation Day rallies
Large-scale rallies and marches are scheduled across Seoul on August 15 to mark Liberation Day, leading to significant traffic disruptions in major city areas.
Conservative groups, including the Liberty Unification Party, plan to hold a rally at Sejong-daero starting at 1:00 PM, with a march toward the Blue House area scheduled for 4:00 PM. This will impact two-way traffic between the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency intersection and the Salvation Army intersection. Additionally, conservative organizations will hold demonstrations near Olympic Park in Songpa-gu.
Progressive groups and the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions are scheduled to hold rallies near Yulgok-ro and Sajik-ro starting at 1:30 PM. Their march, beginning at 2:30 PM, will pass through Anguk, Jonggak, and Euljiro intersections toward Seoul Plaza. During this period, two-way traffic between Euljiro 1-ga Station and City Hall Station is expected to be restricted.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency is deploying approximately 218 traffic officers to manage vehicle diversions and flow. Authorities advise citizens to use the subway to avoid congestion and to check real-time traffic updates if driving is necessary.
