Seoul implements urban safety and youth cultural projects

Dongjak-gu, Seoul, has completed its Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) project, targeting vulnerable narrow spaces in residential areas. The initiative, which has been ongoing since 2020, has seen a 34% decrease in the five major crimes in the district between 2020 and 2025. Recent improvements in Daebang-dong, Sangdo 4-dong, Sadang 1-dong, and Sadang 4-dong include the installation of design security windows, safety fences, reflective mirrors, and improved street lighting to enhance nighttime visibility and resident safety.

Separately, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced plans to transform the former Seongdong Detention Center site in Songpa-gu into a specialized youth cultural complex. Following a public-private partnership competition, a consortium led by WeBest Asset Management was selected to develop a facility focused on digital competency, culture, education, and content creation. The project aims to provide creative spaces for youth while offering open cultural amenities for local residents.
