Seoul Jamsugyo Bridge to become pedestrian-only bridge

Starting at midnight on the 26th, vehicle traffic on Seoul's Jamsugyo Bridge will be completely prohibited to begin its transformation into the city's first pedestrian-only bridge. The project, which began after the bridge's 50-year history of vehicle use since its opening in 1976, is scheduled for completion in August next year.

During the construction period, pedestrians and cyclists will generally be allowed to continue using the bridge, though some restrictions may occur between May and August next year due to paving works. To mitigate traffic impacts, city buses 405 and 740 will detour via Banpo Bridge, and the bus stops at Banpo Hangang Park and Sebitseom will be closed.

The redesigned bridge will serve as a cultural waterfront space, featuring 22 new observation areas. This includes two points above the river navigation channel where transparent glass flooring will be installed, allowing visitors to look directly down at the water and passing vessels. The Seoul Metropolitan Government plans to utilize the space for seasonal outdoor festivals and street performances.
