Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon Rejects Yongsan Park Apartment Plan

Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon publicly opposed proposals to build apartments on the Yongsan Park site, stating that even a one‑centimetre encroachment would violate the park’s purpose as a lasting public asset. In a Facebook post he cited former President Roh Moo‑hyun’s principle that no building should be erected on the park and the Moon Jae‑in administration’s 2007 Yongsan Park Special Act, which designates the area as a green‑focused national park.

He argued that while housing supply is important, it must respect established principles and sustainable urban policy, especially amid record heatwaves that underscore the need for green space to address climate challenges. The mayor’s remarks came during a citizen forum on real‑estate normalization at Seoul City Hall, where he reiterated his stance against converting park land for residential use.
