Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon warns real estate debate may become a tax‑burden showdown

Seoul Mayor Oh Se‑hoon said the upcoming national real‑estate discussion, to be chaired by President Lee Jae‑myung on March 23, should centre on increasing housing supply and stabilising rentals, not on shifting tax burdens. He wrote on Facebook, “The core agenda of the public real‑estate debate must be supply and rent‑lease stability.” He added, “I fear the debate could become a forum for arguing ‘who should bear more taxes.’” Oh emphasized the need for effective policies on new construction, redevelopment projects and measures to curb the simultaneous rise in home prices, jeonse and monthly rents that are hitting young families and low‑income residents.

He urged that the discussion focus on concrete actions to relieve the public’s immediate housing pain rather than abstract fiscal arguments.
