Seoul Metropolitan Council People Power Party criticizes government housing policy

Members of the People Power Party within the Seoul Metropolitan Council have issued a formal resolution criticizing current government housing policies. The group called for the complete withdrawal of plans to use Yongsan Park for housing supply, arguing that converting large-scale urban green spaces into residential areas is an irresponsible move that deprives future generations of essential assets.

The council members also demanded a re-examination of the ‘8.13 housing measures,’ claiming these policies were developed without sufficient consultation with the Seoul Metropolitan Government or local market stakeholders. They emphasized that current regulations have failed to stabilize prices and have instead increased the burden on youth and newlyweds due to rising housing costs.

As the 12th Seoul Metropolitan Council begins its term under a ‘divided government’ structure—where the Democratic Party holds a significant majority—the People Power Party pledged to focus on practical politics rather than ideology. They submitted two primary resolutions for the new term: one calling for the normalization of real estate policies and expanded housing supply, and another advocating for the construction of future-oriented new transportation networks.
