Seoul National University runs youth engineering and biotech camps in Gwanak
The Gwanak District Office partnered with Seoul National University (SNU) to hold a three‑day engineering camp for 40 middle‑ and high‑school students from August 3‑5 at the university’s College of Engineering. The program, now in its 12th year, featured hands‑on projects such as building generators, gyroscopes and a bridge, tours of semiconductor research facilities, and a group engineering contest (E‑CON). District mayor Park Jun‑hee said the camp helps students discover their aptitude for engineering and become future talent.
Separately, Seoul Newspaper and SNU’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences hosted a two‑night, three‑day biotechnology camp for another 40 middle‑school students. Participants attended lectures by Professor Kim Kyung‑min, conducted a “soil CSI” experiment to create healthy soil, and received mentorship from university students. Professor Kim noted, “Soil is the basis of all life,” emphasizing the camp’s aim to spark interest in agricultural biotechnology and guide career choices.
