Seoul announces 2.8 trillion KRW supplementary budget

The Seoul Metropolitan Government has announced its first supplementary budget for the current administration, totaling 2.8061 trillion KRW. Of this amount, 810 billion KRW is designated for discretionary spending focused on livelihood, growth, and safety.

Key initiatives include the introduction of the 'Moonlight Gift Certificate' to boost the nighttime economy and a new program providing generative AI usage vouchers to 500,000 youth (ages 19-29) for one year. The budget also allocates funds to expand support for youth housing, increase medical subsidies for pregnant women over 35, and enhance flood prevention infrastructure.

Other allocations include expanding public housing purchases, increasing childcare allowances, and upgrading aging subway cars. The budget proposal has been submitted to the Seoul Metropolitan Council for deliberation, facing a political landscape where the opposition party holds a majority.
