Seoul selects Namhyeon-dong and Serosu-gil for night market project
Seoul Metropolitan Government has selected several commercial districts, including Namhyeon-dong in Gwanak-gu and Sinsa-dong Serosu-gil in Gangnam-gu, for the ‘2026 Seoul Moonlight Night Market’ project. Selected areas will receive up to 2 billion won each to transform into vibrant nighttime commercial hubs.
In Namhyeon-dong, the project titled ‘Sadang O-rak’ will focus on five core values: food, scenery, performances, digital experiences, and safety. Plans include creating an art street near the Nam Seoul Museum of Art and establishing a retro-style street in the Buchu Samgyeopsal alley by restricting vehicle traffic. The initiative aims to leverage the high foot traffic near Sadang Station to encourage visitors to explore deeper into the local alleys.
In Gangnam-gu, the Serosu-gil district aims to implement a ‘Garosu-gil by day, Serosu-gil by night’ strategy. This approach seeks to connect the fashion and beauty shopping of Garosu-gil with the dining and cultural offerings of Serosu-gil to create a continuous consumption cycle. Improvements will include enhanced night lighting, outdoor dining spaces, and AI-based digital services to assist international tourists. Both districts plan to establish cooperation systems between residents and merchants to manage noise and waste issues.
