Seoul Station plaza to become official no-drinking zone

The Jung-gu District Office has announced that the Seoul Station plaza area will be officially designated as a no-drinking zone starting November 9. The measure aims to transform the area into a safer and more pleasant space for citizens and tourists by addressing ongoing issues with daytime drinking and loud noise.

The designated area covers approximately 13,283 square meters of outdoor space around the plaza and Seoul Station. However, indoor facilities such as restaurants, as well as Seoullo 7017, the Seoul Station underground passage, and subway entrances, are excluded from this designation.

A survey of 1,238 plaza users showed overwhelming support for the move, with 96.4% of respondents in favor. Because the plaza sits on the administrative boundary between Jung-gu and Yongsan-gu, the two districts are coordinating to designate the area simultaneously to ensure effective enforcement.

A guidance and promotion period will run until February 28 of next year in cooperation with Yongsan-gu, the Korea Railroad Corporation, and the police. Starting March 1, individuals caught drinking in the designated zone will face a fine of 50,000 won.
