Seoul subway protest by disability rights group causes non‑stop train runs

Members of the National Association of Disabled Persons (전국장애인차별철폐연대) staged a commuter‑hour protest on Monday, 3 August 2026, boarding trains at Hyehwa Station on Line 4 and Noryangjin Station on Line 1. The demonstrators demanded that the 2027 national budget include a dedicated disability‑rights allocation and the institutionalisation of rights‑centred jobs.

In response, Korea Railroad Corporation allowed Line 1 trains to pass Noryangjin without stopping from 08:30 to 09:50, while Seoul Metro ran Line 4 trains through Hyehwa without stopping between 08:42 and 09:28. Normal service resumed after the brief interruptions. The association announced that the Monday‑morning subway boardings will continue weekly until 24 August, aiming to pressure the government ahead of the budget submission to the National Assembly.
