Seoul to host 2027 World Steel Association General Assembly
Seoul has been selected to host the 2027 World Steel Association (WSA) General Assembly, marking the first time the event will be held in South Korea in 22 years since 2005. The announcement was made during a member meeting in New Delhi, India.
Jang In-hwa, Chairman of POSCO Group and the Korea Iron & Steel Association, played a key role in the bid, appearing in promotional materials to encourage global participation. During the recent meetings in New Delhi, Jang engaged in discussions regarding international standards for low-carbon steel product guidelines and carbon emission allocation methods.
On the business front, Jang met with Sajjan Jindal, Chairman of JSW Group, to discuss ongoing cooperation. POSCO is currently pursuing a joint venture with JSW Steel to construct an integrated steel mill in Odisha, India, with a target completion date of 2031. This project is part of POSCO’s ‘Triple Core’ strategy to localize production in high-growth markets.
Additionally, POSCO received the top prize in the process safety category at the WSA Safety and Health Best Practice Contest. The award recognized the company’s proprietary ‘Vision AI’ safety system, which uses artificial intelligence to analyze video data and detect hazardous situations in real time.
