Seoul to launch convenience store rest areas for delivery riders

The Seoul Metropolitan Government will launch a pilot program in September to establish “delivery rider convenience store shelters” at approximately 3,000 CU convenience store locations across Seoul. The initiative aims to improve accessibility for delivery workers who often face irregular break times and short waiting periods between calls, making it difficult to reach traditional, fixed-location rest areas.

Under the pilot, 3,000 selected riders who have used the public delivery app ‘Ddengyo’ will receive 10,000 won in mobile vouchers. These vouchers can be used at CU stores to purchase water or snacks, and riders may use available seating areas within the stores to rest. Following the September pilot, the city plans to implement formal operations during the extreme heat of July and August and the extreme cold of January and February next year.

In addition to the convenience store initiative, the city is expanding other welfare measures, including the creation of container-style temporary shelters in Seongbuk and Jungnang districts and the introduction of “mobile worker shelters” using modified small buses to visit high-activity areas.
