Seoul's Eunpyeong-gu expands housing redevelopment projects

The Eunpyeong District Office approved a change to the implementation plan for the Susaek‑8 redevelopment zone, increasing the project from seven to eight buildings and expanding the number of units to 620. The amendment, based on a plan confirmed by the city in December, aims to start construction in the second half of 2024 and includes new small‑size apartments for elderly residents, public welfare facilities such as a community center and a modern library, and infrastructure upgrades linked to the nearby substation work slated for completion in 2026.

In a separate but related effort, Seoul announced the rapid integrated planning of a large‑scale housing redevelopment in the Bulkwang‑2 area of the same district. The plan, finalized after seven months, will replace the low‑rise, aging neighborhood with a high‑rise complex of up to 29 floors comprising roughly 3,100 units, including public rental housing. The zoning is being upgraded to a higher residential category, and the project will feature expanded roadways, new access routes, and improvements to address steep slopes and traffic flow.

Both projects are part of the city’s broader strategy to modernise outdated housing, improve transit connectivity, and enhance living standards for residents of Eunpyeong‑gu.
