Sepak Takraw National Championship begins in Srinagar

The 29th Sub-Junior National Sepak Takraw Championship has commenced at the Sher-i-Kashmir Indoor Sports Complex in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir. The tournament is scheduled to run from September 6 to September 10.

More than 800 players and coaches from 30 states and union territories are participating in the event. The championship includes athletes, referees, coaches, and managers, totaling over 1,000 participants.

Local representative Numan Sofi noted that the goal is to promote the sport within Jammu and Kashmir, highlighting that Sepak Takraw is recognized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and is included in the Asian Games and Khelo India schemes. Participants expressed that the sport offers opportunities for professional advancement through sports quotas. Uttar Pradesh, the previous season's winner, enters the tournament looking to defend its title.
