Separate domestic violence and weapon incidents result in jail sentences

In two unrelated incidents, men have been sentenced for domestic violence and breaches of protection orders.

In Ireland, a 33-year-old man was sentenced to two months in prison at Cloverhill District Court after pleading guilty to assaulting his former partner. The assault occurred on the same day he was served with a protection order in Tallaght. Gardaí reported that the man, who was under the influence of alcohol, struck the woman in the face, causing a bloody and swollen lip. The judge noted that the physical nature of the breach was an aggravating factor, though the sentence was reduced due to the defendant's lack of legal representation.

In Canada, 40-year-old Jesse Wielenga received a three-month sentence, credited for time served, following a series of incidents in Brandon. Wielenga pleaded guilty to assault and breaching both a no-contact order and a weapons prohibition order. The charges stemmed from an argument where he shoved his former partner and threw objects at her. Additionally, during a mental health crisis, Wielenga entered a regional health centre emergency room while armed with a knife, prompting security to tackle and restrain him.
