Separate fires reported in Trelew and Piriápolis

A fire broke out at a convenience store and gift shop in downtown Trelew, Argentina, causing significant material damage. Fire Chief Cristian Otero reported that the blaze originated in the rear of the establishment near several display refrigerators. While firefighters prevented the flames from spreading to the upper floor or neighboring businesses, the back of the shop sustained heavy damage from fire, smoke, and hot gases. Preliminary findings suggest an electrical malfunction in the refrigerator power supply may have caused the incident.

In Piriápolis, Uruguay, firefighters responded to a fire at a hotel located on the Rambla de los Argentinos. The building was closed to the public and unoccupied at the time, with maintenance work underway. The fire started in an outdoor area where discarded materials, including cardboard and furniture, were stored. An investigation determined that a short circuit in the electrical wiring for the fire pump room caused the incident. The fire was contained quickly, and no injuries were reported.
