Cantù: Man arrested after fatal stabbing following dispute over accent

A 33-year-old man, Cristian Maffia, has been arrested following the fatal stabbing of 55-year-old Aldo Marra in Vighizzolo, a hamlet of Cantù. The incident occurred outside the Bivio bar on via Montello after a dispute that reportedly began inside the establishment.

According to statements made to Carabinieri, Maffia allegedly claimed the victim mocked his Calabrian accent. Maffia, who has prior police records related to drug offenses, reportedly carried a knife because he feared encountering a creditor to whom he owed money. Witnesses suggest Marra, a well-known carpenter and local youth soccer coach, may have asked the suspect to leave the premises, leading to the confrontation outside.

Marra sustained two stab wounds, one to the shoulder and a fatal blow to the abdomen. Despite emergency medical intervention, he passed away shortly after being transported to the hospital. Authorities are continuing to investigate the exact dynamics of the altercation.
