Sistan and Baluchestan sees surge in separatist attacks against Iranian security forces

Separatist militants have intensified attacks against Iranian security forces in the Sistan and Baluchestan province, a Sunni-majority region bordering Pakistan and Afghanistan. Over the past three weeks, state media reports indicate at least eight security personnel have been killed.

Recent incidents include the deaths of a police officer and a female Basij militia member in the Mehrestan district, as well as a senior IRGC commander and a provincial official. Attacks have targeted police stations, military bases, and convoys, with some violence reportedly extending into the neighboring Kerman province.

In response to the escalating unrest, Tehran has deployed military reinforcements, including approximately forty additional vehicles, to the area. The province, which is home to the strategic Chabahar port, remains under high tension. Iranian officials and academics have attributed the rise in militant activity to foreign support, suggesting that external actors are working to undermine domestic stability.
