Nigeria regional initiatives focus on digital skills and economic empowerment
Various regional development and corporate initiatives are targeting human capital and digital literacy across Nigeria.
The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has launched an Artificial Intelligence training and capacity-building program in Port Harcourt. Managing Director Dr. Samuel Ogbuku urged youths to leverage AI to transition from job seekers to “opportunity creators,” aiming to shift the regional economy from oil dependence toward knowledge-driven innovation.
In Imo State, a joint venture between NNPC and Seplat Energy graduated its first cohort of 127 teachers under the Seplat Teachers Empowerment Programme (STEP). The training focused on digital teaching techniques, STEAM approaches, and alternative income-generation skills to enhance professional development and economic resilience.
Additionally, the Bayelsa State Education Development Trust Fund is partnering with the British Council to train 400 teachers and school leaders. This initiative emphasizes English language proficiency, digital teaching methods, and leadership skills to improve academic outcomes in the state.
In a separate community event, Three Crowns Milk hosted an empowerment initiative during the August Meeting in Imo State, providing business equipment to 30 underserved women and offering education on health, finance, and agriculture.
