Seplat Energy and NNPC launch eye care programme in Akwa Ibom
Seplat Energy and NNPC Limited have launched the ‘Eye Can See’ programme, a week-long eye care outreach initiative targeting approximately 6,000 individuals in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. The programme is scheduled to operate across Uyo, Eket, and Ibeno.
Participants will have access to free eye screenings, medical treatments, reading glasses, and sight-restoring surgeries. Seplat Energy Chairman Udoma Udoma stated that the initiative is part of the company’s commitment to social investment and community development following its acquisition of Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited assets.
Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno, represented by Deputy Governor Senator Akon Eyakenyi, commended the intervention, noting that cataracts account for roughly 43 per cent of blindness in Nigeria. The initiative aligns with the state administration’s ARISE Agenda to promote public well-being.
