Seplat Energy official calls for sustainability as a risk management tool

At the 2026 Sustainability Conference of the Sustainability Professionals Institute of Nigeria (SPIN) in Lagos, Chioma Afe, Director of External Affairs & Social Performance at Seplat Energy Plc, urged businesses to integrate sustainability into their core strategies rather than treating it as a standalone corporate social responsibility (CSR) function.

Afe argued that sustainability should be utilized as a risk management tool to create business value and drive measurable impact, rather than being viewed as a cost center or a collection of social initiatives. She noted that Seplat Energy’s own strategic evolution involved positioning sustainability as a core component capable of driving returns, involving multiple organizational functions such as legal, procurement, finance, and human resources to identify and manage related risks.
