September 11 attacks: Fact-checking conspiracy theories

As the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks approaches, investigations into the event continue to address various conspiracy theories. Fact-checking of prominent claims indicates that while the 9/11 Commission report documented significant failures in the exchange and evaluation of intelligence regarding Al-Qaeda, it found no evidence of US government involvement in orchestrating or allowing the attacks.

Regarding the responsibility for the attacks, the FBI identified the 19 hijackers as being trained by Al-Qaeda. The 9/11 Commission report attributes the concept of using passenger planes for such attacks to Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, which was subsequently adopted by Osama bin Laden. Of the hijackers, fifteen were from Saudi Arabia, two were from the United Arab Emirates, and three were linked to an Al-Qaeda cell in Hamburg, Germany.
