September 2026 Harvest Moon to peak on September 26

The September 2026 full moon, traditionally referred to as the ‘Harvest Moon’, is scheduled to occur on the night of Saturday, September 26. The lunar event is expected to reach its peak at 19:50 Greece time.

This celestial phenomenon can be observed with the naked eye and does not require specialized equipment such as telescopes or binoculars. Astronomically, the full moon serves as a marker for the end of summer and the transition into autumn.

The term ‘Harvest Moon’ is rooted in North American indigenous traditions, where the bright moonlight allowed farmers to extend their harvesting of crops like corn, pumpkin, rice, and beans into the night. Because the September full moon in 2026 does not coincide with the autumnal equinox, the ‘Harvest Moon’ designation will instead apply to the following full moon in October.
