Seasonal changes in September impact energy and mood
The transition into September often leads to increased fatigue and mood changes due to seasonal shifts. A primary cause is the reduction in daylight hours, which disrupts the body’s internal biological clock and circadian rhythms. For instance, in Skopje, daylight decreases from over 13 hours at the start of the month to less than 12 hours by the end.
Additionally, the return to structured routines—such as work, school, and increased daily responsibilities—following the summer period can cause stress and exhaustion. To mitigate these effects, experts suggest spending time in natural light, especially in the morning, maintaining consistent sleep and wake times, and staying physically active.
The World Health Organization recommends establishing regular daily routines and healthy sleep habits, including limiting electronic device use before bed and avoiding large meals or caffeine immediately before sleeping to help the body adapt to the new seasonal rhythm.
