Sequoia Union High School District parents call for superintendent's removal
A group of parents in the Sequoia Union High School District is calling for the removal of Superintendent Crystal Leach. During a press conference on September 9, organizers expressed concerns regarding Leach’s leadership, citing a lack of transparency, responsiveness, and accountability.
The movement is primarily driven by parents of former TIDE Academy students following the school's closure in June. The group is also attempting to expand its influence to the Menlo-Atherton and Woodside high school communities and is collecting signatures to recall members of the district's board of trustees.
Johanna Mahal, a leader of the recall effort, criticized the board for failing to hold the superintendent accountable and for ignoring community concerns. In response to the criticism, Leach stated via email that the decisions causing community tension, specifically the closure of TIDE Academy, “were not made lightly.”
