Serap Belovacıklı faces investigation over social media posts

The Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into Sözcü TV news presenter Serap Belovacıklı. The investigation was initiated ex officio under Article 216 of the Turkish Penal Code, concerning the crime of ‘Inciting the public to hatred and enmity or degrading a section of the population’.

The investigation stems from Belovacıklı’s social media activity. Reports indicate the controversy arose following a series of posts and responses to users on X (formerly Twitter). Belovacıklı later issued a clarification, stating that her comments were not intended to insult the public but were directed at a specific individual who had directed severe insults toward her.

Belovacıklı is a veteran journalist who has worked for various outlets including Habertürk, Akşam, and Haber Global, and has previously served as a press advisor for the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality.
