SERAP urges 2027 presidential candidates to declare assets

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has issued an open letter to the 19 presidential candidates recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the 2027 election. The organization is calling for all candidates to voluntarily publish detailed accounts of their assets and liabilities, including those of their spouses and unmarried children under 18.

SERAP further demanded that candidates disclose the legitimate sources of their significant wealth and publicly reject all forms of vote-buying and electoral bribery. The organization emphasized that candidates seeking control over public finances and national resources should demonstrate that their personal financial affairs can withstand public scrutiny.

By embracing these higher standards of transparency and accountability, SERAP argues that voters will be better equipped to assess potential conflicts of interest and choose leaders based on competence and integrity rather than financial influence.
