Serasa survey: 60% of Brazilians rely on extra income
A survey conducted by Serasa and the Opinion Box Institute reveals that six out of ten Brazilians have some form of extra income. According to the data, 39% of respondents engage in extra income activities regularly, while 21% do so occasionally.
For many, these activities have become a permanent fixture in their financial lives, with 59% stating it is a constant part of their budget. The primary motivations include achieving financial and personal autonomy (67%), building something of their own (72%), realizing dreams (17%), and starting a business (13%). Additionally, 28% of those with extra income use it to pay off debts.
Regarding the amounts earned, 58% of participants report receiving up to R$ 1,000 per month, while approximately 20% to 22% earn above R$ 2,000. Financial education specialist Aline Vieira notes that while extra income can help realize personal projects or supplement budgets, individuals should approach it realistically by considering available time, costs, and expected returns.
