Serbia accused of using school textbooks to revise 1990s war history

Reports indicate that the Serbian educational system is utilizing school textbooks to implement a policy of historical revisionism regarding the conflicts in the 1990s. According to the investigation, textbooks for primary and secondary schools omit or minimize significant events, such as the siege of Vukovar, and avoid terms like “aggression” or “conquest war.”

Instead, the curriculum defines the conflict in Croatia as a “civil war” triggered by secession. The role of the Yugoslav People's Army is reportedly presented in a manner that avoids accountability for wartime actions, which critics argue prepares younger generations for future conflicts by fostering historical misconceptions and omitting the experiences of victims.
