Serbia advances major highway and railway infrastructure projects

Serbia is moving forward with significant infrastructure financing and modernization projects. The government is set to approve new loans totaling approximately 62.6 billion dinars to fund various construction initiatives.

Key projects include the Belgrade-Zrenjanin highway, for which the state will secure three separate loans from Unicredit Bank, Inteza Bank, and NLB Bank. While originally estimated at 600 million euros in 2020, the official cost for this highway was updated to 1.6 billion euros in 2023.

Additionally, the state will provide a 14.5 billion dinar guarantee for Transnafta Pančevo to facilitate the construction of the Serbia-Hungary oil pipeline, which is expected to have a capacity of 5.5 million tons of crude oil annually.

In the rail sector, Infrastruktura železnice Srbije has launched an international tender for the modernization of the Belgrade-Niš railway section. This 'design and build' project aims to enable train speeds of up to 200 km/h on the Paraćin–Trupale–Međurovo segment, positioning the country as a regional transport hub connecting Central Europe with Bulgaria, Greece, and Turkey.
