Serbia and China strengthen military and defense cooperation

Serbian Defense Minister Bratislav Gašić met with Major General Guo Hongtao, deputy head of the International Military Cooperation Sector of China's Central Military Commission, to discuss defense cooperation. Gašić stated that the procurement of weapons and military equipment from China has significantly enhanced the operational capabilities of the Serbian Armed Forces.

The meeting included discussions on the Subcommittee for Military Cooperation, with a third session focused on military equipment and technology scheduled for later this year. General Guo Hongtao reaffirmed China's commitment to intensifying defense cooperation in areas of mutual interest, citing the traditional friendship between the two nations.

Gašić also expressed gratitude for China's international support regarding the status of Kosovo and Metohija, noting that Serbia will continue to support the ‘One China’ principle. The discussions highlighted the influence of the personal relationship between President Aleksandar Vučić and President Xi Jinping on the bilateral defense partnership.
