Serbia and Croatia boost state aid for children with unpaid alimony
In Serbia, 889 children are now receiving financial assistance from the Alimentacion Fund, according to Minister Jelena Žarić Kovačević. The ministry said 77 fathers are currently paying alimony, and 44 children who have reached adulthood but remain in school continue to receive support. Since the fund was established, a total of 54,209,260 dinars has been disbursed.
Jelena Radanović, a mother of two sons, told Kurir that she receives 55,000 dinars each month from the fund, highlighting its importance for single‑parent families.
In Croatia, the state began covering temporary maintenance for children whose parents do not pay alimony at the start of 2025. To date, payments have been made for 5,622 children, amounting to roughly 8.8 million euros. Authorities intend to enforce repayment by blocking debtors’ bank accounts and, if necessary, imposing public‑work obligations.
