Serbia and Croatia introduce new social aid packages for vulnerable groups

The Serbian government prepared a 600‑million‑euro social assistance package that includes one‑off payments of 25,000 dinars for recipients of cash assistance, child allowances and war‑veteran benefits, with disbursements expected in September 2026. From October 2026, a new caregiver status will grant parents of disabled children a monthly allowance of 65,000 dinars, reduced drug prices, electricity discounts and free textbooks.

In Croatia, the "Zaželi" program aimed at preventing institutionalisation of older people is entering its final EU‑funded phase. The Ministry of Labour announced that state budget funds will bridge the gap until new EU financing is secured, ensuring continuity of community‑based care. Lawmakers have called for the scheme to become a permanently funded service, independent of EU funds, and to expand support such as in‑home technical assistance.
