North Macedonia and Serbia sign gas interconnector agreement

North Macedonia and Serbia have signed an agreement to design and construct a gas interconnector to enhance regional energy security and diversify gas supplies. The project involves a total pipeline length of approximately 70 kilometers, with 22.4 kilometers located within North Macedonian territory and the remainder in Serbia.

The contract for the North Macedonian section, valued at 29.4 million euros, was signed between the state natural gas transmission operator NOMAGAS and the construction company Rapid Build. The pipeline will feature a 500-millimeter diameter and a technical capacity of up to 160,000 cubic meters of gas per hour. The route will run from the Klečevce block station to the Serbian border near the village of Sopot.

North Macedonian Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski stated that this project, alongside a separate interconnector with Greece, will provide the country with a vertical energy connection along Corridor 10, significantly improving its geostrategic position. The project is scheduled for completion by the end of 2028.
