Serbia announces 10.9% pension increase amid regional social policy updates
In Serbia, the Republic Fund for Pension and Disability Insurance held a forum in Barajevo to discuss support for elderly citizens. Acting Prime Minister Đuro Macut announced a pension increase of 10.9 percent effective December 1, aimed at improving the living standards of retirees. He noted that this increase, alongside social policy measures and reduced medicine prices, reflects the state's commitment to its senior population.
Relja Ognjenović, Director of the Serbian Pension Fund, reported that the state recently disbursed 377.2 million euros in pensions in a single day to demonstrate system stability. Additionally, a one-time assistance payment of 6,000 dinars for all pensioners has commenced.
Meanwhile, the Federal Institute for Pension and Disability Insurance in Bosnia and Herzegovina has issued a notice to pensioners residing outside the country. These individuals must submit a life certificate by December 31, 2026, to avoid the suspension of pension payments. The institute clarified that pensioners residing in Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Montenegro, and North Macedonia are generally not required to submit these certificates unless specifically notified due to missing identification data.
