Serbia approves new A9 motorway linking to Romania

President Aleksandar Vučić confirmed the finalisation of the A9 motorway, a 65‑kilometre highway from Pančevo to the Vatin border crossing with Romania. The route, designed for 130 km/h, has two alignment options – a northern variant passing near Alibunar and Banatski Karlovac, and a southern variant following the existing international road. The project is part of a broader push that has already delivered about 1,100 km of motorways and 160 km of fast roads across Serbia, with more than 800 km under design in ten major schemes. Infrastructure officials highlighted new features such as a full‑profile bridge over the Sava River and an integrated border crossing to cut waiting times for passenger and freight traffic. The development aims to connect Serbia with regional partners, including Romania, Bosnia‑Herzegovina and future corridors around Belgrade.
