Serbia blood reserves reach critical two-day minimum
The Institute for Blood Transfusion of Serbia has issued an urgent appeal to citizens as blood reserves have dropped to a critical two-day level. The shortage is most severe for all negative Rh factor blood groups, as well as A and O positive groups.
Dr. Mirsad Đerlek, State Secretary in the Ministry of Health, noted that blood reserves typically decrease during the summer months. While the shortage is significant, medical officials stated that the current surgical program has not yet been postponed.
Regular donors and medical professionals continue to support the institute, emphasizing that voluntary donation is the foundation of a functioning health system. Data from the institute shows that donation rates are highest on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
