Serbia chess teams depart for 46th Chess Olympiad in Uzbekistan

The Serbian national chess teams have departed for Uzbekistan to compete in the 46th Chess Olympiad, held in Samarkand from September 15 to 27, 2026. The tournament features a record number of participating teams, including 190 in the women's category.

The Serbian women's team, led by selector Alisa Marić, enters the competition ranked 14th based on average rating. The squad consists of Teodora Injac, Elif Mehmed, Sofia Pogorelskih, Jovana Srdanović, and Alina Bivol. Marić noted that the Serbian Chess Federation has provided excellent accommodations near the playing hall to aid concentration.

The Serbian men's team aims to replicate their strong performance from two years ago in Budapest, where they secured fifth place. The delegation was officially sent off by the President of the Chess Federation of Serbia, Andrija Jorgić, and General Secretary Bojana Bejatović.
