Serbia: Citizens prioritize savings over investment for security
A national representative study conducted by M2S Research reveals that 66% of Serbian citizens engage in saving, while only 16% currently invest. The findings highlight a significant gap between a widespread culture of saving and a developing culture of investing.
Financial security is the primary driver for both groups. Approximately 75% of savers set money aside specifically to prepare for unforeseen or emergency situations. While younger generations tend to save for travel, major purchases, or real estate, the need for a safety net remains a common priority across all age groups.
Financial analyst Georgi Hristov from Tavex zlato&srebro noted that the research indicates people are not primarily saving to build wealth, but to ensure protection against the unexpected. This distinction is considered a critical starting point for future financial education and long-term planning.
